ae is the best way to make your own multimedia databases on MAC *
Create customized catalogues, inventories, lists... according to your preferences and quickly, thanks to a minimalist and functional graphic interface.
Use the basic columns types: text, number, date, datetime, time, check, enumeration, URL, rating, image, audio, video, PDF or file attachment according to the kind of information you want to store.
Add, cut, copy, paste, delete and move easily your rows and columns along your tables.
The selections paradigm:
Once you have selected your rows or columns, you will be ready to export to TXT, XML, CSV and SQL standards and also print the selected fields.
Imagine you have a database with 1000 vinyl records and you want only to export or print 5 of them to send it to someone!
All Edit menu options will only affect your selected fields.
Your data safer than ever, forget to save your important data into obscure, private and abstract formats:
Save your tables as .ae1 or .aem file formats, both open formats (with public specification) and specially designed to be read quickly and take up minimal space on your hard drive.
ae 2.0 also includes a way to recover corrupted files due to blackout during the saving process or another misfortune. Please inform yourself about it on ae help website.
Define keys and constraints if you desire to avoid repeated or empty values.
Open CSV and TSV files from Finder with ae. And much more important: import CSV and TSV data to your ae1 and aem tables! ae will prevent your imported data from violating keys and constraints you have defined previously.
ae 2.0 features a print module that avoid partitioned rows between paper sheets. Yes, ae calculates the space that a row may need and if the space that remains on the paper it's not sufficient, it skips the space and creates a new sheet.
Undo manager allows you to navigate through modifications you have done to your tables during your session.
ae has been tested under Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion so don't worry about your current OS X.
Send by email your tables created with ae and your receivers will be able to read them for free, just by using the ae free reading-version: ae reader. You can download ae reader from http://en.egdbe.net/continguts/aereader.dmg
Use in your WEB projects the databases you have created with ae thanks to the PHP parser that you can freely download here: http://en.egdbe.net/aeecosystem/php
Encode your data to the unicode standards UTF-8, UTF-16 and UTF-32. It's recommended to use UTF-8 for tables containing occidental texts, whereas UTF-16 is recommended for tables containing oriental texts, thereby you will optimize the size of your ae1 files.
Sort your lists to find your data more easily or remove the order in case it doesn't matter. ae 2.0 allows multicriteria sortings.
ae 2.0 includes advanced search and replacing panels.
Choose decimal mark and the thousands separator symbols to adapt it to your local numeration system.
Move among the values of your rows with the TAB key. All the cells are ready to be accessed only using the keyboard.
ae has become a MULTIMEDIA database editor.
Too many improvements to simplify it in few lines. Please read ae 2.0 description to analize all new features.
