PyCharm by JetBrains is one of the most popular code editors for Python development. Built on the same foundation as IntelliJ, PyCharm includes cutting-edge features like smart autocomplete, PEP8 checks, a seamless integration with IPython Notebooks, an interactive Python console, and a vast extension marketplace. PyCharm's robust built-in Python tools make it ideal for all Python developers—from beginners to data scientists to senior engineers. Here's how to get started:
- Visit the JetBrains plugin marketplace and search for Code Time. Click Get and install the plugin in the PyCharm IDE.
- Open Code Time in the sidebar and follow the Getting Started prompts to create a new account, or click Log in to sign into an existing account.
- In the Code Time sidebar, open the Settings view to configure Flow Mode. With Flow Mode, you can protect your time and defend against disruptions right inside IntelliJ.
- Next, open your Dashboard to view your most recent coding stats, including code time, coding during vs. outside work hours, and meeting time. Click More data to see additional metrics in the web app.
After installing Code Time, you can create an account to keep track of your coding data and unlock access to advanced data visualizations in the web app. Registering an account also lets you connect multiple code editors on multiple devices using the same email account. Your code time data will sync automatically across your devices.
Code Time is free to use and includes access to basic time tracking across your editors and IDEs. It is free to create an account.
You can upgrade to the Pro plan for $9.95/mo to access to advanced reporting, including code time by project. You will also be able to export your data as a JSON, CSV, or PNG file.
